10 rainy day activities the kids will love!

Written by Jenna Johnston

Don’t let the rain stop you from having fun,
This blog is full of lots of activities for everyone!
From movie nights, baking or making a craft,
These rainy days will be a blast!

Don’t let the rain stop your fun, instead try one of these activities for a super day indoors!

1. Plan a family movie night!

Who doesn’t love watching a movie when the weather outside is cold and grey. Grab the whole family together, get a blanket and some snacks and turn on your favourite movie or the latest movie that you’ve been dying to watch. If you can’t decide what to watch, check out our blogs to see the newest movies on Netflix for the month. Read it here.

2. Have a game day!

Board games are a great time passer as well as being super fun, especially if your family is the competitive type! Having a family board game day is the perfect afternoon or evening activity for those rainy days. My personal favourite board game is Monopoly but you can find my list of the best board games here. What’s your favourite game?

3. Get baking!

Who doesn’t love baking? If you’re looking for a fun (and tasty) indoor activity I highly recommend baking. Either channel your inner Great British Bakeoff and bake from scratch or decorate some pre-made biscuits or cupcakes! If you’re looking for cupcake decorating inspiration, why not have a go at making our super yummy and easy rainbow decoration. Check the blog out here.

4. Go to a super fun indoor attraction!

When the days are grey and cold, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun day out at an attraction. From indoor trampoline parks to museums and aquariums, we have you covered! You can check out the list of our fantastic indoor attractions that you and your family can enjoy here.

5. Plan an indoor treasure hunt!

This is one perfect for little pirates! Keep the little ones entertained and plan an indoor treasure hunt. When planning your treasure hunt, think about areas where you could hide items for little ones to find. An idea to hide (and in true pirate theme) is chocolate coins! I’ve created a few ideas for clues to give you some inspiration:

For your first prize
You just might
Find it under
Where you sleep at night
Answer: Under the bed

Time to chill,
time to think;
please go here for a cool, cool drink.
Answer: Fridge

When I’m hungry feed me some bread,
after I pop, bring on the spread.
Answer: Toaster

At the end of your treasure hunt, you can have extra gold coins waiting for little ones, or you could make a treasure pirate chest for them to store their chocolate gold coins and treasures in! Have a look at the video of our pirate chest craft here. It’s super easy to make and makes another great afternoon activity for little ones to get involved with.

6. Make playdough!

I love playdough, so why not spend the afternoon making your own playdough on a rainy afternoon! This playdough recipe is super easy and cost-efficient, plus by placing your in containers, you can keep and replay over and over with your playdough. Here’s our playdough recipe below:

You will need:

250g plain flour
50g salt
140ml water
1 to 2 tablespoons cooking oil
few drops food colouring of your choice

Method:

Step one: Take your bowl and mix together the flour and salt. Then add the water and oil.
Step two: Knead the mixture well for 10mins. If your texture is not smooth, add more flour or water!
Step three: Choose your favourite colour and add a few drops of colour into the playdough.
Step four: Enjoy your playdough!

7. Craft a mask!

Get your arts and craft on with this activity! If your little ones love dressing up or if you have little unicorn fans at home, this mask is an absolute must! You can find our simple step by step unicorn mask tutorial video here. If your little ones aren’t the biggest unicorn fans, why not make a different mask. Some mask ideas you could make are different animals such as tiger, monkey, lions, superhero masks or even an alien mask.

8. Make your own homemade pizza!

Who doesn’t love pizza? Instead of buying pizza get the whole family together with a bunch of delicious toppings and make your perfect pizza. You can choose to buy a ready-made base or show off your kitchen skills and make a home-made base. Some topping suggestions are ham, pepperoni, pepper, onions and sweetcorn but you can put anything you love on your pizza!

9. Colour!

Kids love colouring and it is a great pastime! Get some printable pages from online and let your little ones show their inner artists. So get your crayons, felt tips and colouring pencils and colour to your heart’s content. You can also print out some of our printables here.

10. Enjoy a hot chocolate!

Hot chocolate and cold weather go perfectly together! Sit back at home and make a hot chocolate with some whipped cream and a chocolate flake on top. You can also have a go at making different types of hot chocolate such as caramel, mint or even unicorn!
