Us Brits are a bit mad at the best of times but May seems to make us more bonkers than ever! Check out these fun events happening in May.  Where will you be going?!

May 4th; ‘Dorset Knob Throwing!’ Cattistock Dorset

At this fun event  and food festival you can watch or take part in Knob Throwing- there are strict rules to abide by!, There are also many other knob themed activities………Knob Eating, Knob Painting and even a Knob & Spoon Race. You might even be clever enough to Guess the weight of the Big Knob!

So what is a Dorset knob?! It is a wonderful traditional biscuit which is cooked through a special process that takes up to 10 hours.

May 3rd-5th; ‘Sweeps Festival’ Rochester Castle, Kent

sweeps festivalDid you know that traditionally a chimney Sweeps annual holiday was on 1st May? This lively festival celebrates the fun and laughter they had on that day with music, entertainment and Morris dancing and more. Fun for all the family!

May 3 – 5th ‘Star Wars Event’ Hamleys Glasgow.

See your favourite Star Wars characters at Hamleys in Glasgow! Taking place between 11am -4pm. You can even take part in arts and crafts workshops and join in with the Droid hunt!

May 25th; ‘Maldon Mud Race’ Essex

Fancy running in mud?! Or maybe just watch the 300 entrants who are all raising none for charity make their way across the mud at low tide in Maldon, many in fancy dress. There are big TV screens so you won’t miss out on any of the action and there is also a range of entertainment including a duck race (2.30pm), a steam funfair, face painting and stalls.

May 25th: ‘Cheese Rolling’ Gloucestershire

Imagine a VERY steep hill! Now imagine people running down it trying to catch up with a rolling ball of cheese! This event is not for the faint hearted! To enter you just turn up at the top of Coopers Hill and prepare to run, roll, tumble and fall down it!

May 25th-: ‘Wheels Festival’ Bournemouth

This is a FREE festival that features…… Wheels!! Anything and everything to do with wheels will be at this event on Bournemouth seafront.

Entertainment includes; Monster trucks, a pier jump, supercars, vintage cars, free cycle wheel stunts, fireworks and much much more!

May 26th: ‘Woolsack Races’ Tetbury

Screen Shot 2014-04-30 at 14.22.13In the middle ages Tetbury was one of the most popular wool producer in the country. To celebrate this the traditional woolsack races take place every year. Entrants run up and down a super steep hill carrying a heavy sack of wool on their backs. On the day there is also a traditional street fair with stalls, rides and plenty of food. Fun for all!
