It’s a Bank Holiday, the kids are off and it’s time to get out and about. This half term there are some fantastic events taking place at an attraction near you. Here’s my list of things NOT to miss, including some exclusive discounts!
Free Half Term Fun For Families: Museum of London, Most activities are for Age 5+ , 23-30 May
Fun for all the family this half term with a week of events from crafts, story telling and drama. Kids will be able to enjoy puppet making, costume making, take part in drama activities and learn songs and dances from the past.
Snozone, Castleford: Sledging Sessions for £6pp!
If you fancy some adventurous family fun, why not head to Snozone in Castleford. Between 25th- 29th May you can enjoy a discounted sledging session including the exhilarating ice slide!
Teethtastic at Centre of the Cell: Blizard Institute London, age 7+, 2 – 4.15pm & 3.15 – 5.30pm, 27th/ 28th/ 29th May Adult £7, kids £5
Usually reserved for school and group bookings Centre of the Cell open to the public during school holidays. It is located inside a distinctive orange Pod suspended above the laboratories in the Blizard Institute in Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. When you visit you will be able to see scientists at work! This half term the ‘pod’ show is ‘Teethtastic’! We all want kids to know how important teeth are and this fantastic show will teach them all about how to have healthy teeth and gums. They can take part in a chomping challenge and even learn how to make toothpaste for elephants! It’s not all just about teeth though, whilst you are there they can have a go at experiments, learn how to heal virtual burns and diagnose cancer using real body parts under microscopes.
Hunting for Heritage: ‘A Family Trail around Battersea’ Wandsworth Museum, London, Age 7+, Free. 26/27 May 2-4pm
This great event organised by the Wandsworth Museum allows families to hunt for clues together finding out the secrets of Battersea’s history. Pick up trail booklets from the Battersea Arts Centre, follow the clues and find all the answers to claim a prize! (Please note this is an outdoor trail)
Shaun in the City: All over London , Follow the trail until 31st May
This half-term is your last chance to explore London City in search of some amazing baa-brilliant Shaun the Sheep sculptures designed by some very talented artists, designers and celebrities. There are over 100 Shaun the Sheep placed in iconic places around London on a ewe-nique trail! Catch them quickly before the entire flock takes off for the green pastures of Bristol!
Ripley’s Believe it or Not: London. Exclusive Days Out With Kids Offer £54 for 4 people

This half-term visit the brand new Butterfly House and see hundreds of beautiful butterflies from around the world you can get extra close to them and learn all about their life cycle too. To celebrate Cbeebies Tree Fu Tom will be appearing in special LIVE show that transports children into the magical world of Treetopolis! The show runs from 23rd-25th May. There’s even a fun Tree Fu Tom Trail to take part in!
Holiday Workshop: The Natural World, Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool, 28th May, 1-4pm, FREE
This free drop-in session offers kids the opportunity to meet live bugs from Knowsley Safari Park and the chance to make their own bugs to take home! This event is inspired by the exhibition ‘Micrographia’ currently being shown at the Tate Hall Museum.

A perfect rainy day out! An indoor light spectacular at Blackpool Winter Gardens! Wonder at the colourful and magical visual experience that these beautiful large scale lanterns have created. Lets go Fly a Kite! This free family event is a great way for the kids to spend a day outdoors in the fresh air flying a kite and learning some great tips from kite experts. You can bring your own kite or why not make one there on the day? This event takes place next to the reservoir.
Art Picnic Hampers: The Whitworth, Manchester, 13th May – 30th June, Free
This amazing gallery is offering families a great opportunity to see the exhibitions on offer and chance to be creative at the same time! During opening hours pick up an art ‘picnic hamper’ for FREE that’s filled with art materials, great ideas for things to do and of course a picnic blanket. See what creative masterpieces everyone in the family can come up with!
CBeebies Mr Bloom at Stockeld Park Wetherby, 31st May (normal entry applies £12pp or £42 Family)
Enjoy all the fun at Stockton Park, including the roller rink, inflatable zone, play areas and more. On 31st May there’s a very special vitiator coming to the park. Cbeebies Mr Bloom and his friends, Fairy Enchantica, Pom Pom and Stanley! Kids will be entertained by the fun show and singalong sessions. Buy a raffle ticket and you could be one of 20 lucky people who will meet Mr Bloom himself! There is no charge to watch the show.
Post Office Play at Tintagel Old Post Office: Cornwall, 23rd-31st May, Adults £3.80 Kids £1.90
This very cute half-term event enables kids to be a postmaster or postmistresses of the local post office from years gone by. They can dress up in Victorian fancy dress and send telegrams and postcards just like they would have done in the 1870’s and enjoy games in the garden, a family trail and other seasonal events.

Dinosaurs have arrived in Longleat for the summer! Are you brave enough to explore the park in hunt of the amazing life-size creatures as they come to alive in front of you! Meet Triceratops, a Stegosaurus and of course the terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex plus many more. A resident dinosaur expert will be on hand to answer any questions and kids can be mini palaeontologists testing their skills in the dinosaur discovery zone.
Suck, Squeeze, Bang and Blow Tours: Haynes Museum, Yeovil, 23rd-31st May (Usual admission applies, Adult £13.95, Kids aged 4+ £8.95)
This museum displays the UK’s largest car exhibition with over 400 cars and bikes from the nostalgic 50’s – now! This half-term the kids can learn how a car engine works! From single cylinder engines to much bigger V16’s, they all make a noise, some louder than others! The tours are especially designed to enthral the children but secretly this is one for the ‘petrol head’ dads (and mums) out there! Tours are at 11am and 3pm.
Common People Festival, Southampton, 23rd & 24th May
With great music by Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Clean Bandit, and Grace Jones, plus fun activities for the family Common People is a great way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend!
Wheels Festival Bournemouth, 29th – 31st May, Free, All ages.
This is the UK’s biggest FREE wheels themed festival event. There will be action-packed displays from F1 cars, motorbikes, skateboarders, BMX riders, supercars and vintage vehicles. With a lively schedule of family activities in and around Bournemouth Beach, make sure you pick up a souvenir programme so you don’t miss a thing.
Rock Pool Ramble: Lindisfarne Castle, Northumberland, Free, 25th May 1-3pm
This idyllic spot is definitely worth exploring on a family day out and kids love just love peering into rock pools, so join coastal rangers and hunt for crabs, sea urchins, lobsters and other fascinating creatures that call the beautiful Northumberland coastline their home.
Fires and Marshmallows at Wray Castle Cumbria, drop in event 10-4pm, 26-28 May, Normal admission Adults £8, Children £4, Family £20.
This event sounds like a lot of fun where you can bring the family along and all learn how to prepare and light a fire. Don’t worry it’s all done under the guidance and supervision of rangers. Afterwards everyone can sit down and admire their hard work while keeping warm and toasting marshmallows…complete bliss!
