The Rehab Parliamentary Pancake Race

For something a little different this Shrove Tuesday go to just outside the Houses of Parliament to see members of the House of Commons, the House of Lords as well as political correspondents, as they battle around a race course whilst flipping pancakes. A great way for the family to spend the morning and to have a giggle!

The Rehab Parliamentary Pancake Race has served to raise awareness of the work that Rehab does in enhancing the life chances of people with disabilities and others who are socially-excluded in the UK.

Where: Victoria Tower Gardens outside Houses of Parliament, London.

When: Tuesday 4th March, in the morning.

Great Spitalfields Pancake Race

Another entertaining race to watch as you will see teams of four in a variety of fancy dress run a relay race down Dray Walk at The Old  Truman Brewery near Brick Lane with their pancake and frying pan. There will be a prize for the fastest and the best dressed, the winners recieve engraved frying pans. There are usually other entertainment with string bands,  clowns and more so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Scarborough – The Ringing of the Pancake Bell

Scarborough has had the Skipping Festival since 1853 as people celebrate having an afternoon off and playing childhood games both adults and children alike. People turn up informally to skip if you are in the area and the children have the afternoon off bring them along and everyone can join in, expect some fancy dress and lots of fun.The other custom which is still retained at Scarborough is the ringing of the Pancake Bell, it use to signal the curfew at 6am and 6pm, but on pancake day it rings at Noon to signal the afternoon off.

World Pancake Racing Championships- Exeter

Bring the family here to see this fantastic charity pancake race where teams of up to 4 will be racing in fancy dress to win prizes. The relay race consists of each team member sprinting along a short course before having to flip a pancake three times. For spectators there will also be events that you can participate in, including going on stage and entering pancake tossing competitions.

Pancake Day for Kids at Jimmy’s Farm

Don’t want to make a mess at home? then bring the kids to Jimmy’s Farm where they will clean up the mess for you. Each child gets to make two pancakes, gets squash and a balloon and for the adults there will be tea and cakes available

Where: Jimmy’s Farm, near Ipswich Suffolk

Olney Pancake Race

Women who have lived in the town for more than 6 months race down the High Street to the church. This tradition is believed to have begun back in 1445, when a lady hearing the church bells ring out for the service,  she fled her house fearful of being late,  ran the distance down the High Street to make it to the parish church – still clutching her frying pan and wearing an apron!

Wimborne Minster Pancake Race

Adults and children will run round the Minster, starting at the North Porch tossing their pancakes at the four corners of the church- during the first race the pancake bell will be rung.  All are welcome to register and join in the fun and there are prizes for the victors!

When: Tuesday 4th March 11:00

Where: Main Entrance of the Minster
