The Durham Streets Summer Festival; 29th 30thAugust, free, all ages

In the centre of Durham the streets will come alive with a number of dazzling and entertaining performances that are sure to entertain the family over the bank holiday weekend. You will be able to see daring acrobatic performances, laugh at some comedy and enjoy lots more fantastic family entertainment.

Food Festival, Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley; 28th-31stAugust, 10am 8pm, small fee, all ages

Visit Canon Hall over the bank holiday weekend to enjoy a whole bunch of tasty treats and some family entertainment. There will be cookery demonstrations, food stalls and for the kids chocolate making, a bouncy castle, face painting and lots more. There will still be a charge to visit the farm and parking costs £3.

The Siege of Chester, Chester Racecourse and Chester City Centre; 29th 31stAugust, free

Visit Chester over the weekend to step back in time as the city centre will be transformed by Europe’s largest re-enactment society. They will be recreating the Great Siege of the city among other events. At 2.30pm on Sunday and 2pm on Monday a huge re-enactment of the Battle of Rowton Moor is planned at Chester Racecourse.

Malham Show, Malham, Yorkshire; 29th August, Adult £8 Child Free

Take the family (including the dog) along to this traditional country show set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for a day of family and countryside entertainment. There will be horse events, fell racing, children’s sports and fancy dress, falconry displays and lots more!

This large festival has 32,000 square feet of family activities for you to discover! There’s going to be giant inflatable fun, soft play areas, fairground rides, carnival games and even donkey rides. There will be a mouth-watering selection of  food and drink for you to sample whilst enjoying the live music!

There will be a large selection of working, trade and pleasure narrow boats for you to admire at this family friendly festival. You will also find a selection of family activities and entertainment to enjoy over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Leeds West Indian Carnival, various locations around the city; 28th-31stAugust, free

Bring the family along to this colourful and lively carnival in Leeds. This is the Longest running authentic Caribbean carnival parade in Europe. Dance along to the Caribbean beats, be amazed at the dazzling costumes and enjoy some delicious food.

Shrewsbury Steam Rally, Onslow Park; 30th 31stAugust, Adult £12 Child £1, all ages

All the family will enjoy exploring this fair where there’s going to be a range of steam engines and vintage vehicles of all shapes, designs and eras on display. There will be over 1,000 exhibits in total. In the ‘Working Field’ there will be live demonstrations showing how the farming industry has changed throughout the years. For the kids there will be vintage fairground rides and birds of prey displays to watch.

Enjoy a ride on one of the vintage trains, go on a fair ground ride, get your face painted and over the weekend Peppa Pig and George are going to be making appearances. There’s plenty of family fun to be had at this railway over the weekend.

At the National Sea Life Centre not only does the family get to see some exciting creatures that live in our oceans but this summer kids get the chance to be LEGO City Deep Sea Explorers! There will be fun activities and a hands-on chance to build a LEGO sea creature. Look out for hidden LEGO creatures in the displays and every visitor will receive an activity pack too.

 999 Emergency Services Day, Clumber Park, Worksop; 30th August, 10am – 4pm, free, all ages

This event will celebrate all the amazing work that the emergency services do in the beautiful setting of Clumber Park. There’s going to be a large selection of emergency vehicles for you to see and lots of demonstrations for the family to enjoy.

 Lady Labouchere’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Dudmaston Estate, Shropshire; 30th -31st, 11am -17.30, Adult £9.40 Child £4.70 Family £23.50, all ages

Lady Labouchere, the previous owner of Dudmaston Estate, used to enjoy teddy bear’s picnic’s to celebrate her birthday. So the National Trust are throwing their very own picnic for all to enjoy where there will be lots of fun, games and of course teddies. Just make sure you take along your own teddy.
