Activities Advice For Mums Summer Themed Fun

Survival Guide: Festivals with kids

Written by Amy Hughes

Are you heading to a family festival this summer?
Here’s our survival guide so it’s not a total bummer.
Rainsuits, trailers and pretty fairy lights,
These festival must-haves will take your fun to new heights!

Pull Along Trailer

If you have children aged between 1 and 4 and you don’t have a trailer, you need to invest. Need help carrying your stuff? Or are the kids tired of walking? This will be your best friend at any festival and will make walking around much easier. Buy here.

Waterproof Picnic Blanket

This is a no-brainer for a festival with kids. They will want to sit down and you might not want them to get wet or dirty. Take a seat to watch your favourite band, or just to have some dinner at your tent. Buy here.

Children’s Hearing Protectors

Children’s ears are a lot more sensitive than ours so protect them from the loud music. They may even feel more settled with these on as the sudden loud noise can be scary for festival first-timers! Buy here.

All-In-One Rainsuit

While we can hope for good weather, we have to acknowledge the fact we are in the UK so rain is always a possibility. Protect their clothing with these fun rain suits which are definitely more fun than wearing a raincoat! Available in a range of colours, there’s bound to be one they like. Buy here.

Face Paint

Whether your festival of choice has a fancy dress theme or not, face paint is a sure way to excite the kids. Fancy dress can be expensive but these face paint pencils offer a cheaper and easier way to get involved. Go wild with your designs! Buy here.

Safety Wristband

There are so many options for safety wristbands available. This style ensures your child never strays too far without necessarily having to hold your hand. Buy here. There are also bands available that enable you to write your contact number on so that stewards know who to call if they find your child.

Battery Powered Fairy Lights

Some fairy lights make a fun addition to your tent and can be more delicate on your eyes than a torch during the night. You could also decorate your trailer, making it not only pretty but also more obvious for other festival goers. Buy here.

Child’s Camping Chair

Perfect for your camp when you’re having breakfast or just having a rest between acts. These children sized fold up chairs can be stored easily inside your tent or car. Buy here.

Cool Box

Cans of warm beer and cider are often associated with festivals, but the kids might not be so accepting of warm drinks. This particular cool box keeps cool for up to 3 days, and has wheels making it easy to transport around the festival grounds – perfect! Buy here.

Head Torch

Walking back to your tent in the dark can be an amusing challenge, but head torches make a great addition if you want to avoid any accidents. They’re also useful when going to the toilet in the night and your hands are busy trying to manage kids! Buy kids sizes here.

Toiletries

There are the obvious essentials like toothpaste and a first aid kit just in case, but baby wipes are also an essential item. You might not have access to showers over the weekend so being able to freshen up with wipes can really lift your mood. Suncream, toilet roll, hayfever tablets, and antibacterial gel are all useful too. Depending on the age of your children, taking a potty might be a good idea too. If you’re taking a gas stove, heat up some water and use a hot water bottle during the night.

Camera

No doubt you’ll have your phone at the ready to capture all the amazing memories you’ll be making. The kids might want to get in on the action though so give them a disposable camera each! If they know there’s a limited number of photos they can take, they’ll savour them and take photos of their favourite moments.

Food and Drinks

Sometimes it feels like kids never stop feeling hungry, and food at festivals can be expensive so take as many snacks as possible – you can never have too many! Crisps, fruit, crackers, biscuits, and porridge pots are all perfect. Remember to take bottles of water too which can easily be refilled.
