You don’t need to fight your way to the seaside this Summer. At the Southbank Centre kids can enjoy sunshine and sand in the big city! Bring a bucket and spade and enjoy a free fun time with all the family. Find out more.

24th Jul 2017 – 31st Aug 2017

Over the Summer holidays there are fantastic workshops being held at this great attraction that will not only entertain the kids but fascinate them too. Pick from code breaking challenges, photography, computer science to making and testing shampoo! These events are very popular so best to get the kids booked in asap! Find out more.

2nd Jun 2016 – 16th Dec 2017

If there are kids in your family between the ages of 11 – 15, then bring them to this amazing interactive exhibition especially for teenagers who are contemplating their future careers. The activities on offer will inspire them and test their skills to maybe choose engineering as their future with opportunities to design a space rover, build test systems or explore a city that we could all be part of in the future. Following on from the new five pound note, the new £10 Jane Austen note is due to be released over the Summer. The Sunday of Notting Hill Carnival is all about the kids and there will be a children’s parade with flamboyant costumes and riotous colours, dancing to steel bands, live music and family workshops. The Tetley Weekender at The Tetley, Leeds

Brighton Fishing Museum

If you or your little ones are into fishing, you’ll love the Brighton Fishing Museum. You’ll learn about the history of fishing and discover Brighton’s past. You’ll see fabulous displays of photography, paintings and memorabilia depicting Brighton’s seafront and fishing history. The museum’s centrepiece is an impressive 27 foot clinker built punt boat, which is the traditional Sussex fishing boat! Find out more.

Fireworks at Sea at The Grand Pier, Weston Super Mare

How about a great free fireworks treat for all the family? Come on down to the pier to see a spectacular display over the sea. Bristol Harbour Festival Harbourside, Bristol

Another fantastic and free festival in Bristol is the Bristol Harbour festival. Throughout the harbour side area there is going to be circus acts, dance performers, arts, boats and much more for the family to enjoy. Bournemouth Beach & Pier Fireworks

Consisting of seven miles of golden sand, Bournemouth Beach is a perfect destination for a seaside escape! Obviously enjoyed best in the summer, you’ll enjoy the beach itself but also the many attractions and fun you’ll find all around you. Every Friday in the summer months at 10pm the lights go out on Bournemouth Pier and there is a spectacular fireworks display!  National Railway Museum, York

With over a million objects that cover 200 years of history, the National Railway Museum is the perfect day out for little train lovers! You’ll get to see giant halls full of engines and railway legends, including Mallard, the world’s fastest steam locomotive and an array of luxurious royal carriages. This Summer you can expect lots of fun planned events, including drop-in sessions joining the RSPB for some lovely family activities. For a fascinating day out, the family will love The British Museum where you’ll see displays on different aspects of art, culture and history! In and around London there are a number of farms that you can visit for free. You can meet an array of different animals, learn all about where your food comes from and enjoy being outdoors. Mevagissey Aquarium, Cornwall

Little marine lovers will enjoy looking around this fascinating aquarium, housed in an old RNLI lifeboat house and full of tanks brimming with coastal fish! You’ll get to learn about how the Pilchard industry is important for the fishing history of this village. Find out more.

Corris Craft Centre, Machynlleth, Wales

 Paint some pottery, dip candles, craft herbals or even make your own unique bar of chocolate! For the kids there’s a small children’s play area so they can let off some steam, plus there’s a treasure hunt that they can follow around the centre. Find out more.

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

Just one mile from the city centre, these beautiful gardens and grounds are a tranquil oasis. There is a fee to enter the dramatic glass houses but entrance into the gardens is free. There’s 72 acres for you to explore, which includes a lovely pond where you will find lots of ducks and the waterfall in the rock garden area. Find out more.
