What’s on this Weekend! (28th & 29th March 2015)

School’s out for some and spring is definitely in the air! This weekend you could; spot Shaun the Sheep sculptures in London, see real lambs at a farm near you, become a science buff or even join an egg hunt! With so much choice what will you do?!


Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival
All over the city of Cardiff there are over 50 exciting events taking place as part of this festival. All ages will be inspired by local and national contemporary authors and illustrators. There are plenty of events going on this weekend and I’ve chosen 2 to share:

Cardiff Story Gallery: Sat 28th March 2pm Age 4+ £3
Join award-winning Czech author and illustrator Petr Horáček, whose books include;  Puffin Peter, Silly Suzy Goose, Elephant and The Mouse Who Ate the Moon, as he brings his characters to life in a ‘live draw’ storytelling session.

Cardiff Castle Undercroft: Sat 28th March 12pm, Age 9+ £3
Monster Odyssey with Jon Mayhew How long is the largest squid in the world? How wide were the jaws of the biggest shark EVER? Find out these answers and more about dinosaurs, monsters and creatures from the deep in this fun ‘Monster Odyssey’ session with Jon Mayhew.


Library of Birmingham, Dinosaur Egg Hunt Trail, 28th March onwards,  all day, FREE
Visit the library and test your family’s knowledge on a dinosaur egg hunt! The trail will take you through the Stones and Bones exhibition and the Children’s library. There’s even a chance to win a book token in a prize draw. There are 2 trails to complete, one for under 7’s and one for over 7’s.

Puxton Park, Weston Super Mare: Lambing Week, 28th March – 4th April, Adults £7.90, Children £8.90, under 3’s free
It’s spring and time for all of those cute little lambs to be born! Bring your kids here to help the farmers feed the newborns and you may even get to cuddle one! If you are really lucky when you visit you might even see a lamb being born.

Longleat Adventure & Safari Park, Wiltshire: Longleat Easter Egg Hunt, 28th March – 12th April,

Magna Science & Adventure Centre, Rotherham: Easter at Magna, 28th March – 12th April, 10–5pm. Adults £9.85, Children £8.95
There’s  lots of exciting things going on this Easter at this brilliant science centre. Bring the kids to see a blacksmith at work and learn how the Air, Earth, Fire and Water Pavilions are all linked together. See what happens to our rubbish in a waste recovery plant. Kids can chill in the Story Telling Corner or, for the more daring, ride the zip wire high above the furnace floor!

RAF Museum London: First World War ‘Make & Take’ 28th March – 3rd April, Ages 6+ Entry to the museum is free, a £3 charge applies for each plane made.
Learn about the First World War and see over 100 historic planes before joining in with an ‘Airfix’ workshop where you can make your own aircraft, paint it and take it home! The workshops take place between 11-1pm & 2-4pm

London: Shaun in the City! 28th March -25th May, Free
Explore London City in search of some amazing baa-brilliant Shaun the Sheep sculptures created by some very talented artists, designers and celebrities. There are over 100 ‘Shaun’s’ placed in iconic places around London on a ‘ewe-nique’ trail.

The Dungeons, London: Death by Chocolate, 28th March – 12th April, Adult £25.95, Child £20.95 (suitable for ages 8+)
Forget fluffy bunnies and tasty chocolate eggs! Come to the Dungeons and meet Miss Edmunds in her Victorian sweet shop with her yucky chocolate treats filled with mustard powder, chilli and other poisons!

Hever Castle and Gardens, Kent: Easter Family Fun 28th March – 19th April, Adults £16, Child £14
Collect a map and follow the trail! Once you have handed in your answer sheet you will get a chocolate Lindt bunny! You can also make an Easter bonnet and try your hand at a quiz to learn about Easter traditions!

Puppet Animation Festival, Scotland
From the 28th March- 18th April there are a wide range of spectacular puppetry and animation shows all across Scotland. Here are my picks for this weekend! MORE INFO
Cranshaws Hall, 
Cranshaws: Oscar and the Highland Castle, Sat 28th March 2pm. Adults £4, Children £2, start time 2pm age 4+. Oscar the Mouse and Incy Spider set off on a mission to free the castle!
The Newlands Centre, 
Romanno Bridge: The Man Who Planted Trees, Sat 28th March 3pm. Adults £7 Children £6, Ages 7+. One man (and his dog!) can make a difference. Watch this touching and hilarious story of a man planting a forest one acorn at a time.


Royal Gunpowder Mills, Essex: Explosive Easter 28th March – 12th April, normal admission applies. Adults £9.75, Children £7.75 (suitable for age 6+)
There’s going to be an array of exciting activities including science shows with Professor Nitrate where he will conduct a range of ‘secret science’ experiments. Science show times in the Mad Lab are at 11.40am, 1.40pm and 3.40pm.
