What’s On This Weekend 25th- 26th April 2015

This weekend enjoy St Georges Day celebrations, country fairs and steam engines. If you want something a bit different you can even try out life from a cockroaches point of view?!!! What’s more many of our choices for this weekend are FREE!

Feast of St George, Trafalgar Square,  London, 25th April, 12.00 – 18.00, free, all ages
This fun free festival is organised by the Mayor of London and is inspired by St George’s Day’s 13th century origins as a national day of feasting. There are numerous food and drink stalls that will make your mouth water……scrumptious cakes, a hog roast, homemade pies and so much more. There will be live music, demonstrations by famous chefs and even a marquee full of activities for children.

Hamleys, London, 12:00 – 17:00, 26th April, Free, All ages

To celebrate the release of Marvel Studios© “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Hamleys have arranged a day of free superhero fun. Turn up in your best superhero fancy dress and you will be able to get your photo taken in front of the green screen, where it will look like you’re with your favourite superheros.

Instrument Parade, The Foundling Museum, London,  25th April, 11:00 – 16:00 FREE, drop in, all ages

Throughout the day there will be live music, talks and workshops celebrating The Foundling Hospital Boys’ Band. The kids can join instrument maker Giles Leaman and then make their very own instruments to take home!

A Cockroach Tour of the Science Museum, London, 25th April, Families with children aged 12+, FREE

This unique event was created by Danish artist group ‘Superflex’ and has you imagining what life would be like if you were a cockroach! Find out what it is like to be one of our planets true survivors, having outlived the dinosaurs. Put yourself in their shells…….see what cockroaches make of our obsession with speed, time, burning things and much much more!

This festival has a whole range of activities aimed at people with disabilities. There’s a sensory chill out area, musical acts, accessible theatre, song, arts and drama.

St Georges Weekend, Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden, Warwickshire, 25th & 26th April, 11.00 – 17:00, all ages.

This weekend Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden are celebrating the story of St George the patron saint of both England and soldiers. The story of how St George slayed the dragon will be brought to life in front of your eyes! There will also be lots of hands-on games and activities for the whole family.

The family can experience life in a medieval village at this fantastic event. You will be able to meet the village surgeon and hear about gruesome medieval health care, you can watch a medieval trail take place and enjoy a variety of other sights, smells and sounds. The highlight has to be when you can watch as St George takes on the dastardly dragon, plus the kids will be able to try on armour and test their dragon slaying skills.

Edinburgh Castle has experienced its fair share of wars over the years and this weekend at the castle some of this history will be brought to life in front of your eyes. You will learn about the turbulent times in the 1600s when there were frequent sieges and battles.  You will see how the Scots of the era fought with pikes and schiltrons and you can even have a go yourself!

The East Anglian Game & Country Fair, Norfolk Showground, 25th & 26th April,

This annual two day fair has lots to offer families looking for a day out. Activities include archery, bungee trampolines, mountain biking and even junior clay pigeon shooting! The family can also enjoy a sheep shearing display, make friends with some rescue horses and even watch juggling displays.
