Top Tips For Flying With Kids

Flying with young children can be stressful… from trouble with their ears to restlessness and tantrums. We have some ‘top tips’ to try make that flight a little bit easier.

Prepare them for the flight so they know what to expect and what’s expected of them. If they know that end the end of the flight that they will be on a magical holiday, there’s more chance that they will sit still.

Take snacks. There might be problems taking food from home through customs so you might have to pop into a shop once you’re through security. Eating sweets during take-off and landing can really help with ears popping.

Though most long haul airlines will have TV’s showing movies and TV shows, taking a tablet full of the kid’s favourite shows is always a great idea.

Pack a small blanket and pillow. It’s so much colder planes, so any added comfort up there is always going to help.

If you can, book a night flight then (hopefully) they will sleep through most of the flight. Before you get on the plane get them changed into their PJ’s so they are comfortable and ready to sleep.

Take activities and games! There are some really great activity packs, books and games out there that are made specifically for flying. This ’50 things to do on a plane’ book has 50 cards with an activity, puzzle or a game on.

Make up a bag for each of the kids containing sticker books, crayons, paper, snacks and puzzles. It will feel like an extra special treat.

Take a Trunki, these fun suitcases are perfect for holidays and are perfect for storing all the games, sweets and activities that the kids will need, plus the kids will love riding on them through the terminal!

Go for a little wonder up and down the plane so they can see a bit more of the plane. Stretching yours and their legs will feel good.

If your kids struggle with their ears when flying take some ear plugs to help.

Take small toys wrapped up and give them out every hour or so, so there’s always something new to play with.

Give the kids some Calpol before take-off to help their ears if they have had trouble with them before.
