How to make your VE Day Union Jack Bunting

Are you looking forward to celebrating VE Day?
There are plenty of great ideas of how you can make it fun in your own way!
Like making this great bunting styled with the Union Jack,
To hang up in the garden whilst you relax and eat snacks!

🇬🇧 What you’ll need: 🇬🇧

A4 white paper
Scissors
red and blue felt tip pens or pencils
string or ribbon
glue

🇬🇧 How to make: 🇬🇧

1. Begin, by making your flags. You can do this one of two ways, you can either download and print our template here. Or if you would rather make your own template, take an A4 piece of paper. Holding the paper portrait, fold over 2cm at the top. Next, fold in the paper in half longways and draw a line diagonally from the outside of the paper at the top all the way to the fold in the middle at the bottom. Once you have done that, cut along the line through both sides of the paper. Finally, unfold your paper. Repeat the steps to make more flags. How many flags you will need will depend on how long you wish your bunting to be!

2. Now, its time to decorate your bunting with Union Jacks! (Remember to leave the top strip blank!) Get your flags and using either a red felt tip pen or colouring pencil draw and colour in a vertical line and horizontal line. It should look like a red cross. Top Tip: You may want to use a ruler as this will help make your line as straight as possible! Next, still using your red pen or red colouring pencil, draw a diagonal line out from the centre of the cross to each four corners of the flag. Remember to leave a white border. Finally, complete your Union Jack by colouring in the rest of the spaces with a blue felt tip pen or blue colouring pencil. Again remember to leave a white border. Repeat this for all your flags.

3. Finally, it is time to construct your bunting once you have finished decorating! With the top strip of each flag, you left blank, fold along the solid black line to make a flap. Put the flap over either string or ribbon whichever you would prefer to use to hang your bunting and stick it down using glue. Now, add all your flags to the string, leaving a little gap in between each one. Make sure to leave a spare bit of string either side too so you’re able to hang it.
