Summer is here so the sun is out,
But make sure you’re safe when out and about.
Trying to cool down can get you in a muddle,
But our helpful tips will save the struggle!
Stay Hydrated
This one may seem obvious, but it’s so important to keep your body hydrated so it can cool itself down. This applies to drinking lots of water and eating hydrating foods such as cucumber and watermelon.
Avoid Peak Heat Times
The sun is at its strongest from 11:00am – 3:00pm in the summer, try avoiding any outdoor or strenuous activities between these times and instead go early or in the evening when you can.
Frozen Treats
There’s nothing more refreshing than an ice-lolly on a hot summers day. If you have ice-lolly molds at home, you can put all sorts in them! Try fruit, fruit juice, yoghurt, sweets and whatever else you can think of, get creative!
Block Sunlight
Direct sunlight in any part of the home will immediately start to heat the room. Try closing blinds and opening windows so that the room is still ventilated but the sunlight isn’t so strong.
Water Mist
Whether it’s a bottle of water to spray in your face, a hose pipe, or a sprinkler, feeling water mist on your skin is instantly refreshing. Sprinklers also make great garden toys for the kids and easy entertainment!
Cool Pulse Points
Running cold water over your wrists, ankles or neck will quickly cool your whole body as these areas have a night number of pulse points and will carry the cooled blood through your veins! Just run your wrists under a cold tap to feel the effect.
Outdoor Dining
Both cooking and eating outside will make a big difference to keeping yourself cool. Avoid heating the kitchen with a hot oven and instead pop those burgers on the BBQ! Even easier, enjoy a cold dinner with no heat involved. Eating outside too is a refreshing experience where you’ll feel more relaxed.
Paddling Pool
The ultimate way to have fun in the sun, great for kids but adults too! If you want to enjoy being outside during the day but without getting so overheated that you have to go back in, then why not spend some time relaxing in the shallow water with a drink, or let the kids go crazy!
Air Circulation
Keeping not just windows on all sides of your home open, but also doors will create great air circulation stopping heat from getting trapped. Especially if you’re using fans and/or air conditioning to cool down the rooms, allowing the air to flow is essential.
Supermarkets
Hanging out in the supermarket just a little bit longer after the food shop is nothing to be ashamed of! The air conditioning in those buildings is always a relief as soon as you walk through the door, and if you have to make a special trip just to cool down, no one would blame you.
Budget Air Conditioning
While we might normally pop on the air conditioning or resort to expensive ways to stay cool, the current cost of living crisis may cause us to think again given that keeping cool can be costly! The old hack of placing a bowl of ice water in front of a fan so that it blows ice cold air into the room is a method that never disappoints and doesn’t cost a fortune!
