Gravitational Waves, Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow
3rd – 5th October, 10am – 5pm
Bring along your budding little scientists to see this amazing showcase that displays and explains the materials science at the heart of the international collaborative research project, LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory). Find out more.
Nottingham Goose Fair
4th – 8th October
This fair, which is the largest in Europe with over 500 attractions, includes white knuckle and more sedate traditional rides, a crafts marquee, market stalls and every sort of food. Admission is free but you do have to pay for the rides. Find out more.
Light Night Leeds
5th and 6th October, 6 – 11pm
With a spectacular programme of light projections, interactive installations, exhibitions, dance, music and street performances, this annual free multi-arts and light festival will take over Leeds City Centre for two nights. This year’s highlights include a spectacular Illuminated Night Carnival Parade. Find out more.
Volcano Fun Day, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh

If your little one is science and volcano mad, this is definitely not an event to miss! This free family activity day is based around volcanoes extinct, dormant and active, with hands-on activities and walks up Edinburgh’s own volcano, Arthur’s Seat. Find out more.

Manchester Science Festival at Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester

Bring the kids along for a thoroughly entertaining time seeing science in action and the chance to interact with lots of brilliant exhibits. Sunday 22 October, 12pm
October Plenty is a harvest festival celebration of the bounty of autumn and a fusion of old customs with modern street theatre. The fun starts at Southwark, outside Shakespeare’s Globe theatre and finishes among the stalls of Borough Market with apple bobbing, conker fights and dancing. Find out more.

Sunday 22 October, 12pm

Come Death is a lively, colourful celebration in Mexico. During the celebrations Mexicans fill their cemeteries and streets with skeleton and skull decorations, bright flowers and candy.
