Free Days Out This Easter in The UK!

Are you looking for a fun day out this Easter that doesn’t cost lots?

Cycle routes at Nunnington Hall – Yorkshire

This fun and easy-to-cycle loop route is perfect for all of the family to enjoy! Start at the beautiful manor house Nunnington Hall, nestled within the banks of the River Rye, then head through the North York National Park towards Bransdale.  Find out more.

Heeley City Farm – Sheffield

The perfect place to get up close and personal with farm animals, this friendly farm and environmental visitor centre lies in the heart of Sheffield, Heeley, South Yorkshire. Formby Red Squirrel Walk – Merseyside, England

Spot native red squirrels in the beautiful woodland surrounding Formby in Merseyside. Great North Museum – Newcastle upon Tyne

The Great North Museum is a fantastic place to visit and offers you everything you need to know about natural history. See some wonderful displays and exhibits, including a life size T-Rex replica skeleton, objects from Ancient Greece and mummies from Egypt. Kids will love the live animals housed there, such as amphibians and reptiles. Wall Roman Site – Lichfield, Staffordshire

Little historians will love these Roman ruins which were once an important military road to North Wales! Kingsbury Water Park – Sutton Coldfield

If you are looking for a free family day outdoors then visit here with over 600 acres of country park, 15 glorious lakes and plenty of room for the children to run around. Forge Mill Farm – West Bromwich

Forge Mill is a lovely little farm that lets visitors get a chance to see what farm life is really like away from the big hustle and bustle of modern life. The main attraction is the herd of rare breed cows of Hereford. There is much more to see here with the Mill’s history from the remain’s of the mill itself to the modern day working farm. Ashby de la Zouch Museum – Leicestershire

This local history museum tells the story of Ashby de la Zouch with over 3,000 historical photographs from the 1870s to the present day and films documenting the history of the local area. Fun for all the family dress up in a 17th-century costume or meet a soldier in full battle dress. With leaflets and activity sheets to engage the children with the galleries and displays. Covent Garden

Covent Garden lies in-between Soho and Temple and it is definitely worth a visit on a day trip to London! It has a tremendous amount to offer from shops to restaurants, cafe’s and bars. There are theatres, museums and the Royal Opera house is close by, but some of the best entertainment takes place in the piazza for free! London’s best street performers are more than happy to entertain the public with stilt walking, busking, acrobatics, magic tricks and much more. Bring the family here to learn about all aspects of war; from seeing how families lived and coped during the war to tanks and Spitfires. There are sections on trench warfare, the Blitz and rationing and a whole section dedicated to the horrors of the Holocaust. Bank Of England Museum

Visit this amazing museum and find out about the history of banking with varied exhibitions and displays of coins and notes used since the process of banking began. For Easter, fun families can follow a trail in search of hidden eggs or join in with crafts and other activities. Find out more.

Poole Museum – Dorset

Poole Museum is housed in a converted 19th Century warehouse on the quayside in Poole. See displays from across the ages, including an Iron Age Poole longboat, a vast collection of Poole Pottery and regular exhibitions. Leigh Woods Family Nature Day – Bristol

This area of beautiful and diverse woodland is a great place to bring the kids for a few hours fun outdoors right by Brunel’s famous suspension bridge. There are numerous footpaths that you can follow through the woodland and the children will love the natural play area, sculptures hidden along the purple trails and mountain biking trails. For a small charge of £3.50 families can join the forest Rangers for a day exploring wildlife and helping with a butterfly survey over the Easter holidays. Find out more

House of Marbles is a working glass and games factory, but also makes for a wonderful day out! Families get to see some being created by highly skilled craftsmen. The games museum allows you to step back in time and relive your childhood, the marble museum has a fascinating collection of colourful marbles and the glass museum offers you 4,000 years worth of history to learn about. Heartlands – Redruth, Cornwall

This unique park, which covers 19 acres, includes state-of-the-art exhibitions, climb-on sculptures and gardens! Creative little artists will love the arts and crafts activities on offer. Pay a visit to the Totem Circle, which is used as a performance area throughout the year. Kids will love the Adventure Playground where they will find amazing funnel slides to speed down as well as plenty to climb on and over!  Find out more.

City Museum -Winchester

In this small but fascinating museum, there are three galleries that tell the story of Winchester’s past from the Iron Age to the present. See mosaics and reconstructed Victorian High Street Shops. There are plenty of hands-on activities for the children to get involved in including having a go at sorting artefacts like an archaeologist, making brass rubbings and children’s quizzes. Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary – Ventnor

Donkeys all have such unique characters and you can spend the day getting to know this great bunch. The sanctuary is home to lovely donkeys and well-behaved dogs. Over Easter, families can enjoy a treasure hunt that is sure to involve chocolate! Find out more.

Oxford University Museum of Natural History

Inside this museum, the Oxford University Museum of Natural History houses its amazing scientific collections of geological and zoological specimens. Take your kids along as they will enjoy seeing the famous ‘Oxford Dinosaurs’, the dodo and over 150,000 specimens of zoological species, some of which are now extinct! This famous motor car company offers families wonderful entertainment all year round, where you just don’t learn about the history of this well-known vehicle make but you can enjoy driving experiences, special exhibitions and fun free things for the kids to do. See them ‘take to the road’ on a specially designed indoor driving circuit in a miniature Mercedes! Every child is presented with a driving licence as a memory of their first driving adventure. WDCS Dolphin and Seal Centre – Inverness

Learn all there is to know about seals and dolphins at this wonderful centre. The viewing window is a great place to spot them using some binoculars.  Sound is even played into the viewing area making you feel you’re out in the water with them. A great place to bring all of the family, the exhibitions will intrigue the little ones and also bring on nostalgia for the bigger kids (adults!). There are interactive displays, which are regularly changed relating to childhood, design, photography and fashion. See collections of artefacts spanning from the 1600s to the present day. Snowdonia National Park – Wales

Snowdonia is the largest National park in Wales and if you are looking to take your family on a day trip the list of things a family can enjoy is endless with walking, cycling, fishing, golf, and many watersports.
