The leaves are changing colour and the days are getting cooler, but don’t be disappointed because there’s still plenty of things to see and do at this time of year! We have found some free attractions to take the family in October for a fun filled day out.
Caldicot Castle; Caldicot, Wales
Take a journey through time discovering what it was like living in a Welsh castle surrounded by 55 acres of beautiful country park. For the children there is a walking trail and a play park for them to burn some energy. This is a beautiful place to take a picnic and sit by the lake enjoying the autumn sunshine. Find out more.

This superb visitor attraction is nestled in the former mining heart of Cornwall and has plenty to offer families looking for a day out. For a fascinating day out, take the family to the British Museum where you’ll see displays on different aspects of art, culture and history! It’s a beautiful time of year to get out and about and enjoy the autumn colours. There are eight Royal Parks in London to visit, including Richmond Park which is magical at this time of year. Doniford Farm; Watchet, Somerset
This farm is set right by the Bristol Channel so there are some beautiful views. There’s lots to do including meeting alpacas, birds of prey, meerkats, rabbits and goats, plus the children will enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas. Find out more.
Kirkstall Abbey; Leeds
This beautiful abbey is definitely worth a visit set along the banks of the River Aire, and is a great place to spot wildlife or enjoy a family walk. Inside this compact museum you will discover a museum packed with history. Learn all about the history of Bradford on Avon from Roman times to the present day.
