Free Days Out In April

Freightliners Farm; London

It’s a great time of year to spend at the farmyard seeing all the cute spring animals! Pet rabbits, chickens and goats as well as learning all about the farm, animal care and horticulture during your visit.

Museum of Science & Industry; Manchester


This is an exciting museum, full of interactive displays and exhibitions which include how the human body works, how tornado’s are made, and a walk through a recreation of a Victorian sewer with the smells included!

Sherwood Forest Park; Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

This forest park is set within Sherwood Forest and has lots to offer families on a day out. There are cycling routes, mountain bike trails, great walks, play areas and even a Go Ape course.

Elmdon Park; Solihull, West Midlands

Bring the kids here for a few hours to burn off some steam and they can enjoy beautiful woodlands, open grassy spaces to run around and a lovely lake. There is also a playground which includes a zip wire that the older children will love.

RSPB Nature Reserve Radipole Lake; Weymouth, Dorset

Covering a whopping 222 acres of land, come along for a spot of bird watching and wildlife spotting! Look out for house sparrows and bitterns, or how about giving pond dipping and bug hunting a go. This really is a great day outdoors for all the family!

Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre, Southampton


Located within Southampton Common is this little wildlife heaven. There’s an information centre with interactive exhibits, a hands-on activity room and a beautiful nature garden for you to seek out the local wildlife.

Jet Age Museum, Cheltenham


If you’ve got a budding pilot in the family, take them to this museum to see a variety of superb planes, sit in a real fighter jet cockpit or even taken a tour of a Vulcan.

Garwnant Visitor Centre; Merthyr Tydfil, Wales

For a fun day outside enjoying the springtime weather, this fantastic visitor centre has it all! There are various fun trails to do and children especially enjoy the animal puzzle trails and the 12 animals featured can even be found ar Garwnant!

Museum of Childhood; Edinburgh

For a trip down memory lane, bring the family here for a day where the kids can learn about the history of toys and games, with a puppet theatre and dressing up area! There’s also hands-on activities and games as well as a recreated Victorian street displaying toys from these times!

The Wolseley Centre, Stafford, Staffordshire

The Wolseley Centre is the HQ for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and is a great place to visit for a couple of hours. There are 26 acres for you to wander through, you can spot wildlife and the children will enjoy the play trail, which includes a welly splash bridge, musical sculpture and lots of things to climb on and over.

Redwings Horse Sanctuary Fritton; Norfolk

Come along and meet rescued ponies, horses and donkeys and learn all about them. Plus there is even the chance to adopt one of these beautiful animals!
