Bournemouth Wheels Festival

The Wheels Festival is the first of its type in the UK, with the town centre and seafront staging events such as the Monster Truck demos, daredevil motocross, BMX and skateboard stunts, alongside showcasing vintage and super cars.

When we arrived (parking well out of town) we headed to the pier and lower gardens to soak up the atmosphere. The area was literally packed….great for Bournemouth, much trickier for us with pushchair in tow! We made our way slowly along the seafront towards Boscombe pier  to watch the Monster trucks. The show was fantastic but was cut short when the monster truck wheel blew after a huge jump! We sat in the grandstand for a great view (£2 each or £1 with souvenir brochure) but there are ample viewing areas either side for free.

After this we wandered through the crowds back to the pier to watch the skateboarding. Along the way we spent time looking at some of the vintage cars on show, although I think there were more closer to Boscombe pier itself. As it was so busy it was difficult to get really close to any of the cars or displays but I don’t think the pushchair helped!

As well as the shows and demonstrations there were stalls and fair rides all along the seafront. There were also lots of things we didn’t see such as the Motocross or the super cars but we still had a great time and hope there will be another Wheels Festival next year!
