September is a popular month for birthdays in our household and I thought it would be nice this year to make some handmade cards with the kids. Your little ones will enjoy making these designs (with a little help from you) and we used materials we had at home already.
Whale Card
You will need:
- 1 x sheet of red card
- 1 x sheet of light blue card
- 1 x sheet of darker blue card
- 1 x piece of white paper/card
- 1 x blue balloon
- Scissors
- PVA glue and brush
- Felt tip pen
How to make:
1) Take the red card and fold in half.
2) Carefully cut the light blue card into a rectangle, slightly smaller than the folded red card. Also cut a ‘wavy’ piece of darker blue card, keeping one side straight. Layer the pieces and glue in place.
3) Shape the balloon to make the whale and glue in place.
4) Using the white piece of paper/card, cut out the water spurt and eye.
5) Glue in place and add detail with the felt tip.
Sheep Card
You will need:
- 1 x sheet of green card
- A small piece of white card or paper
- A black pen
- Cotton wool
- PVA glue and brush
- Scissors
How to make:
1) To start, take the green card and fold in half to make your card.
2) Next tear and shape the cotton wool to create your sheep. Once happy, glue in place using the PVA glue.
3) Using the black pen, add detail to the card such as the legs and birthday message.
4) Carefully cut out a small circle of white card and draw a black circle to make the eye.
5) Finally, glue the eye into place and there ‘ewe’ go!
Minion Card
You will need:
- 1 x sheet of A4 bright yellow card
- 1 x sheet of A4 black card
- 1 x piece of white card
- 1 x grey/silver card
- Scissors
- PVA glue and brush
- Black felt tip
- Pencil
How to make:
1) Take the yellow card and fold in half. Draw a semi circle in pencil towards the top of the card and cut along the curve out to create a minion head shape.
2) Next, cut a circle from the grey/silver card, a slightly smaller circle in white card and a circle half the size from the black card. Also cut a black strip of card about an inch wide and long enough to cover the width of the card.
3) Layer the pieces on the yellow card to form the face and glue in position.
4) Add detail with the black felt tip.
Fingerprint Love Heart
- 2 x coloured sheets of card
- Paints
- Plate or palette
- Scissors
- Wipes and water on hand
- Selotape
- Pencil
- Old clothes or an apron
How to make:
1) Fold one sheet of card in half and on the other piece, draw a love heart shape.
2) Roll your little ones sleeves up and put aprons on.
3) Pour the selection of paints on to the plate, dab fingers in different colours and print in the penciled in heart shape.
4) When the whole heart is covered, wash hands and set the card aside to dry.
5) Carefully cut out the heart and stick on to the folded card using a loop of selotape.
Peppa Pig
- 1 x sheet of coloured A4 card
- Blue, pink, green and black card
- A small piece of white card/paper
- Scissors
- PVA glue and brush
- Felt tips
- Something circular to draw around (we used the glue bottle)
- Pencil
- Crayons/Felt tips
How to make:
1) To start, fold the coloured A4 card in half.
2) Take your green card and cut a rectangle shape for the grass.
3) Using your circular object, draw two circles (one on the pink card and one on the blue card) of equal size. On the pink card also draw a smaller circle for Peppa’s nose, two legs, two arms and two ears. From the black card draw two shoes and on the white card, two small circles for Peppa’s eyes.
4) Carefully cut out all the shapes and place in position on the card before gluing in place.
5) Add detail with crayons and felt tips.
